It’s checking against your version of OSX. Higher than 10.4 and it says there’s a newer version. No quick fix that I can figure out… I’d just reinstall OSX if it bothered me that much.

I too have run into this “newer version” problem. Am I to guess that there’s some sort of log that the installer is looking at? If so, how does one go about fixing this? Please give step by step instructions. Thanks!

I got exactly the same problem, still cannot reinstall it cause it says a newer version is already installed, I go to load an application up that needs x11 and it says its not installed…

Adam, did you manage to solve the complete unistalation of X11 so to be able to install it again from apple avoiding the ‘newer version already installed” problem?

Don’t do it! It’ll make it so that you can’t reinstall it from the web. I’m not sure what the best method is for COMPLETELY removing X11, but this method now keeps me from re-installing X11 from the Apple website, because the installer thinks the other version is still installed.
